Newly elected state Rep. Martin Scott, R-Rossville, has been named as a deputy whip under the new Georgia House of Representatives leadership.

Scott represents state House District 2, which includes Dade County and north Walker County.

“It was a huge honor for me to be named by the Speaker and House leadership teams as deputy whip,” Scott said. “It’s a position that will allow me to work on a daily basis with the leadership, especially Majority Whip Barry Fleming (R-Harlem).”

Scott was also named secretary of the House Committee on Ways and Means. This committee assignment was his top request.

“I am surprised and humbled that the Speaker of the House and the Republican leadership deemed me worthy to serve as an officer on the Ways and Means Committee,” Scott said.

“I ran my campaign on a strong platform of lower taxes and less government, and it’s well known that I am a vocal friend of the taxpayer,” he said. “Cutting taxes is the best means of generating economic growth and development.”
