The city of Rossville is still accepting donations for the veterans monument that was destroyed last month.
We were getting some donations and we have already gotten $5,000 in donations and we want to continue to do that, city clerk Sherry Foster said at the Rossville Exchange Club meeting on Thursday.
The money will be used to help maintain and enhance the monument after it is rebuilt.
Donations can be made at Rossville City Hall; or by mailing them to Rossville City Hall, 400 McFarland Avenue, Rossville GA 30741.
There are still people who would like to donate, and that maintenance fund would be needed. This way we can enhance it, Foster said.
The memorial was destroyed last month when a teenage driver, with an adult male passenger, crashed into it while fleeing in his truck from police.
The city will receive a $25,000 insurance claim from Georgia Interlocal Risk Management Agency. Mayor Johnny Baker said this money will be used to replace the memorial.
On July 9 the city received $5,000 from Rossville businessman Paul Rip Connell. This money will be used to maintain the memorial.
