Almost daily, there are stories in the news about children being kidnapped, sexually as-saulted and then murdered or imprisoned by the sexual predator. Most parents don’t know that a sex offender may live near them or that their child is associating with a registered sex offender.

In an effort to keep Walker County citizens better informed about sex offenders living in Walker County, Sheriff Steve Wilson has begun a program designed to keep everyone who lives in Walker County better informed as to the whereabouts of registered sex offenders.

Offender Watch is an internet-based searchable database containing public information about registered sex offenders living in Walker County.

“Offender Watch is the most technically advanced system in operation and is very user friendly,” Sheriff Wilson said.

Offender Watch allows citizens to sign up for email alerts when a registered sex offender moves into their community. Citizens can sign up at www.walkerso.com and then click on the “sex offender” link.

“I encourage every Walker County citizen to use our email notification system because you are able to register multiple addresses such as your babysitter’s home, daycare facility, church, school, office or homes your children visit frequently,” Sheriff Wilson stated.

Currently, Walker County is one of twenty-seven counties in the State of Georgia using the Offender Watch program. There are 108 registered sex offenders living in Walker County.
