Fort Oglethorpe’s first car and motorcycle show, held on Oct. 3, was a success. More than 500 cars crowded onto LaFayette Road in Fort Oglethorpe. “It was a huge success,” said mayor Ronnie Cobb. He said the event was a learning experience, letting organizers know how the event could be improved. For example, the event needs to accommodate more people and also have a louder PA system. The food vendors also ran out of supplies. An-other car show for Nov. 21 is already in the works. Eventually, the mayor said, the event could be used to benefit local charities or the Downtown Development Authority. Earlier that day, the community yard sale was held. Merchants kept their earnings, but the funds raised from concessions was given to Stocking Full of Love, which benefits Walker and Catoosa counties. About $700 was given to the charity, which provides Christmas gifts for less fortu-nate families. This was the third yard sale event, but the first time the weather was nice.
