Georgia Northwestern added to their roster on April 16 as Southeast Whitfield forward Tysean (Ty) Bonds signed his letter of application to the two-year basketball program.

The 6-foor-2, 175-pounder played two years at Dalton High before transferring to the Raiders prior to his junior season.

“I’m very blessed to get this opportunity,” Bonds said. “So many people don’t get this kind of chance. Georgia Northwestern is giving me a chance. I really would like to study management and get in there and find out what it takes to be successful in management.”

“Ty is a young man who wants to help himself,” said Southeast head coach Josh Carter. “I’m a firm believer in helping those who help themselves first. Ty is one of those people.

“The one thing I hear from anyone that came out to see him play this year is that he works so hard. He gives a lot of effort out there and gives his all. Most kids his age are finger-pointers and blame others. He is quick to take responsibility for himself.”

Bonds’ cousin is Nic Perry, a point guard for the Mustangs.

“(GNTC) Coach (David) Stephenson spoke with me and he really seems to be a very straight-forward man,” Bonds added. “He puts God first on his team and that’s something I really do appreciate.”
