Early Thursday morning Fort Oglethorpe police arrested Daniel Steven McAllister, who moments ear-lier had stolen a large donation jug from the Providence Rescue Ministries Thrift Store on Battlefield Parkway, police say.
According to store general manager James Waycasie, McAllister broke into the store and walked out with the donation jar containing hundreds of dollars in change.
“It happened about 2:18 a.m., according to our video cameras,” Waycasie said. “The guy had on a ball cap, and a red bandana around his face like an old cowboy or something.”
Waycasie said the video showed McAllister breaking the back glass door with a tire-iron, grabbing the donation jug, and walking out of the store.
“It was a real in-and-out type of break-in,” Waycasie said.
According to the report, Fort Oglethorpe police officers pulled McAllister over at 2:21 a.m. because his license plate was obstructed.
According to Lieutenant Jackie Hullander of the Fort Oglethorpe police department, officers noticed the jug in the passenger floorboard upon approaching the vehicle, and when they inquired about the jug, the man confessed to taking it from the store.
McAllister was then escorted to Catoosa County jail for booking.
Waycasie praised the efforts of the officers involved with the incident.
“The police officers were all very professional,” he said. “Everybody did a great job, and they took care of the whole thing very quickly.”
McAllister now faces a burglary charge as well as concealment of a tag.
