The William Marsh Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met at the March House Sept. 27 for a luncheon celebrating Constitution Week. A proclamation proclaiming Constitution Week in LaFayette was received from mayor Neal Florence. It was on display in the Green Room.

The Daughters welcomed Sally Baldwin, State Regent, highest ranking officer in the Georgia NSDAR, and Phyllis Fox Lawson, District One Coordinator for Northwest Georgia. Michael Ann Bailey of Summerville supplied orchids for the occasion. Kay Mount was the caterer. Mrs. Mount demonstrated her culinary skills by presenting a chocolate fan on each of the desserts. The fan is the symbol of Mrs. Baldwin’s state theme, “Daughters, Fanning the Flames of Patriotism and Service.”

The event was attended by 34 daughters and guests. Members of the Robert Loughbridge Chapter in Dalton co-hosted the event. Don Coleman was the guest speaker. He gave an interesting, informative speech on the Marsh House’s history. The LaFayette Walmart, along with the Marsh House Task Force, presented the Daughters with a cake in the shape of the Marsh House.

Deborah Boyer, wife of Staff Sargent Boyer, presented a short program on a military unit the Chapter has adopted. It is the 209th Broadcast Detachment from Rome. They are presently serving in Iraq. Photos were viewed and stories of the unit were related by Mrs. Boyer. The Chapter will be giving support to the troops in the form of phone cards, letters and more.
