Several Walker County 4-H members recently showed their beef steer and heifer projects at the Tri-State Cattlemen Association’s Winter Livestock Show. The show was held at the Walker County Ag Center, Feb. 18. This is an annual event where the local Cattlemen’s Association, along with some of their members, sponsor a steer and heifer show for the local youth participating in these projects from Walker, Dade and Chattooga Counties.

Walker County 4-H members who participated were: Dalton Green, Wayne Manning, Luke Manning and Julia Yearout. Dalton showed a Hereford steer and a Hereford heifer. His steer placed second in his class and won Reserve Champion of the steer show. Wayne showed a registered Black Angus heifer and placed second in his class. Luke showed a 1005 pound commercial, or crossbred, heifer which placed third in his class. Julia showed a Red Angus heifer and won first place in her class.

Much appreciation goes to the Tri-state Cattlemen’s Association and their local members for providing the funding for this show. Local members who sponsored classes in the show were: Autry Farm, Millican Farms, Murdock Farm, Red Barn Farm, Red Belt Red Angus, Strickland Farm and Diesel Plus.

For information about getting involved in the 4-H livestock program, call the Walker County extension office at 638-2548.
