According to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department:
Steven Roe Bass Jr., 44, and Cynthia Nicole Bass, 34, both of Crabtree Road in Rossville, were arrested Sunday, March 3, on two counts of entering an auto, financial transaction card fraud, financial transaction card theft, and possession of a Schedule III drug. Steven Bass was also charged with probation violation.
Cynthia Bass has a bond set at $25,000, while Steven Bass is currently being denied a bond.
The duo was booked into jail around 6 p.m. following an approximate three-hour crime spree that began at the Sears Shoe Store at 2778 LaFayette Road around 2:35 p.m.
Police were called after a woman discovered a window had been broken out of her 2012 Ford Focus and her purse stolen, reports show. She said the purse contained assorted jewelry, cameras, identification and credit cards.
Officers on the scene instructed the woman to call her credit card companies and bank to report the items stolen, at which time activity was picked up on one of her cards.
“She was able to gain knowledge that her Discover Card had just been used at the Wal-Mart on Battlefield Parkway,” officer William Palmer said.
The transaction made with the stolen card took place just before 3 p.m. in the amount of $348, reports show.
Officers went to the Wal-Mart at 3040 Ga. 2 (Battlefield Parkway) and spoke with store management who were able to pull video footage of the suspects making the purchase inside the store.
Shortly after 3 p.m., Lt. Steve Blevins pulled the couple over along Battlefield Parkway and advised the other officers involved with the case that he had recovered the stolen property from the entering auto call at Sears Shoe Store.
The suspects were taken to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department for an interview before ultimately being transported to Catoosa County jail.
All the property in the case except for one camera was returned to the rightful owners.
Over the course of the incidents, the Bass couple allegedly stole just over $1,600 worth of merchandise.
